The first project assigned in my Scenic Painting class was one out of the book Scenic Painting Projects for Theatre by Stephen Sherwing. This project featured a painter's elevation we were required to use with a scale to accurately cartoon the window onto a 4'x6' soft flat. After priming the canvas and cartooning the clapboard and window outline, I wood grained using a 2" square brush, then spatter dragged with a darker color to complete the barn siding. I then cartooned and cleaned up the rest of the window before woodgraining and white-washing the boards of the window. Finally, I outlined everything, added highlights and shadows, and called it finished!
